Play more games from 2023

There is a certain joy in exploring games from the past couple of years that are neither relevant for the current GOTY discussions nor certified classics. I love it when I discover a game that just came and fell off the radar and wonder: “How come not more people talked about this?”

My most recent experience like this was with Fate/Samurai Remnant. Although the game has it’s problems, namely too much fluff in the gameplay and narrative, there is a great game here.

It has great interest in it’s historic setting and explores live in this time period pretty thoroughly. Like the rest of the Fate Franchise it sparks an interest in history and culture. Flashy combat, great presentation and interesting additions to a Yakuza-style world top it off.

Sadly these games have a hard time to get a spotlight. They are not old enough to get the obscure gaming artifact treatment but they are not new enough to be exciting. Which is sad. There are multiple reasons why it’s a good idea to seek out games from the past 2-3 years.

They likely get regular deals and only cost a fraction of their release price. In a world where AI “placeholders” make it into final products more and more it’s nice to have the certainty that these games were only touched by humans. Additionally, I enjoy the solitude with them since they are removed from any kind current discourse. It is just my thoughts and this piece of art game. And a lot of times that is enough.
